Criminal records - and the
reporting of them - can be fascinating. The basic
records can point you towards newspaper reports, and the
level of information in them can sometimes be immense.
What we consider to be a minor crime in the present day
was covered in great detail, an example being the
alleged theft of a handkerchief in my own family history
which was quite the cause celebre at the time. Read

compiled from various sources, online and some in
record offices. The amount of detail in each entry
varies - the jail the offender is sent to for example
is often not named. Not guilty verdicts are also
included. There are over 700 records featured here,
